Top 5 Holiday Marketing Tips To Boost Your Business Now

‘Tis the season for social media marketing… and making money! The holidays are just around the corner and maybe you haven’t started your holiday shopping yet, but you should definitely get started on your business’ holiday marketing NOW.

The National Retail Federation is projecting 2013 holiday sales to rise 3.9% to $602.1 billion and the holiday season can represent as much as 20-40% of annual sales. Mind-blowing, huh?

But here’s the catch: You have to make sure that you have the right marketing plan in place to make the most of this wonderful season. The good news is that with a few key strategies your social media marketing can be more effective than ever before.

I have put together 5 proven tips for your holiday social media marketing experience. Let’s dive right in and discuss how you can shine online and improve your holiday sales.

Tip #1: Give your subscribers some VIP treatment. Do you know the one thing all shoppers have in common, no matter how small or big their budget? They love to think they’re getting a great bargain! You can tap into that “YAY-what-a bargain” feeling by offering the contacts on your mailing list a special sort of holiday VIP deal. There is a kind of an endorphin-releasing chemical reaction in a shopper when they read the words “exclusive offer to subscribers”.

You can create any type of VIP deal– from a bonus product, a free E-book, a free podcast or a coupon towards their next purchase. The important thing is that you need to offer your contacts something exclusive that makes them feel special. Even the smallest bonus can go a long way towards making the people on your contact list feeling highly appreciated and rewarded.

Tip #2: Add some extra sparkle. Ugh. Happens every year. I see highly motivated entrepreneurs send out an important holiday campaign newsletter or post an important holiday blog article and not change the look of their message even the tiniest bit from what they are spreading throughout the year. Hello, it’s the holiday season, and festive sparkle is the trend now! Okay, this is the “Marketing Fairy” in me speaking about sparkle, but the truth is that most people get caught up in the holiday spirit (or at least in the spirit of spending money during the holidays!), so let them know you care about their feelings. People will only buy from you when they feel that you understand their wants and needs. No matter what kind of business you’re in, don’t be a Grinch. Put a little holiday touch into your emails and social media updates and show some holiday spirit. A tiny image of a cartoon reindeer can make a HUGE difference.

Tip #3: Shine consistently. NOW is the time to take your online visibility to the next level by consistently posting updates on your social media outlets. Enhance your online presence to make it easy for potential clients to find you. Announce upcoming specials, offers and savings and don’t forget to add eye-catching images along with your posts.

Your social media presence can really set the tone for successful holiday marketing. Keep in mind that consistency is the key in the upcoming weeks. Your audience has a very short attention span, especially during the hectic holiday season. You need to constantly present yourself in front of them or they will forget about your great offers before you can say “happy holidays”.

Tip #4: Add some holiday excitement to your sign-up form. The holiday season is the perfect time to grow your subscriber list. Simply create some excitement about being on your email list by changing the text around your sign-up form. Something like “sign up today for Cyber Monday specials” or “super holiday savings you don’t want to miss: sign up now” will drastically increase your target market’s willingness to submit their email address.

Tip #5: Give a little (and talk about it). The holiday spirit is about giving and reaching out to those in need. People want to give back and feel good about it. So partner with a local organization or charity and offer to donate a percentage of your sales to it. Let your audience know about your donation campaign and they will feel good about buying from you. So everybody wins!

Before the holiday madness officially begins, take some time today to check your social media marketing to make sure your holiday marketing ideas shine as bright as Rudolph’s nose. Thinking about your holiday marketing strategy and using the above tips and developing a simple plan can make this your most successful business holiday season yet.

Tips For Tipping in Vegas

Tipping goes a long way in Las Vegas, and knowing appropriate amounts and times to tip can make a Vegas vacation smoother and more enjoyable. Whether you’ll be spending most of your time in the Las Vegas nightclubs, casinos or your hotel, these tips will show you how to avoid the pitfalls of partying in Vegas.

In the Hotel

Bellmen: Bellmen usually receive $1-2 a bag. Give the tip when he shows you your room. If he just carries the bags to the front desk and then disappears, save it for the person who carries the bags to your room. Upon checkout, tip the bellman who helps with your bags. An extra tip is suggested if you ask them to make show reservations, help you with taxis, etc. Asking to borrow a bellman’s cart is considered inappropriate.

Front desk clerks: If you’re looking for a room upgrade, tipping the front desk clerk can sometimes get you a better room. We leave it up to your discretion, but we’ve heard everything from $10-$50. Place a folded up bill on the counter partially under your ID or credit card so that the denomination is visible. As you slide them across, ask for the upgrade you would like. If they can’t accommodate you or insist on an extra charge, you can simply retract the bill.

Concierge: If the concierge helps you arrange show tickets, tours, hair appointments or anything else, it is customary to leave a tip. It’s up to the customer, but anywhere from $2-$20 is graciously accepted. Tipping can be done at the end of the trip or at the time of service, just remember everything so you are fair.

Maids: We’d recommend $1-$2 a day for the maid service in your hotel room, up to $10 per day depending upon how much mess you make. Tip daily because there might be a different maid each day, and also tip the day you check out. Leave the tip on your pillow or in an envelope marked MAID so it’s not confused with loose cash.

In the Casino

Dealers: You can give the dealer a tip in between hands or spins, from $1 to as much as you want to give. You can also wait until the end of your session and tip the dealer then. It is considered appropriate to tip your dealer once or twice an hour, especially if the dealer is friendly.

Cocktail waitresses: About $2 per round is sufficient for a small group (two to three people). Increase it for larger groups, but don’t go under $1 a drink, even if your drinks are complimentary. The waitress will remember your tip when getting your next round and you will get your drinks faster!

Out on the Town

Valet parking attendants: We suggest $1-2 for valet parking attendants when you drop off and when you pick up. If you want them to leave the car up front, be prepared to tip higher, depending upon how busy it is–anywhere from $10-$30.

Shows: Many of the showrooms in Las Vegas have gone to reserved seating, but some still rely on maitre d’ seating. The better the tip, the better your seat will be. The tip should amount to 5-10 percent of each person’s ticket (ticket total) rounded up to the nearest bill ($10, $20). The tip should be folded up in your hand and discreetly handed to the maitre d’. Arrive 15-20 minutes early so there will still be better seats available. If the show is not sold out, it is likely that you will still get good seats, so wait until you are shown to your seats, then discreetly tip and ask if that will help get you a better view.

Nightclubs: Tipping doormen and Las Vegas VIP hosts can and will make your club experience smoother and more enjoyable. A pre-tip as you walk in will go a long way if you have a problem and or need something. Give your business card with the tip and introduce yourself. If you have come as part of a group or special service like Vegas Passport, let them know. For example, tell them you are here with Vegas Passport for a special occasion with your close friends and want to make sure your group is taken care of. The size of the tip will determine how “taken care of” you and your group are. Ten dollars per person in the group will do wonders.
